Artists > Phelps, Andrew
Andrew Phelps is an American photographer born in Mesa, Arizona, who has been living in Europe since 1990. His work is influenced by the cross-cultural experiences that mark his life, which have made him distinctly sensitive to the inherent beauty of landscapes and societies in transition. Among his recent projects is the documentation of the Japanese province of Niigata, a series commissioned by the “European Eyes on Japan“ Festival in 2009. The importance of dialogue and direct engagement with viewers extends to his additional work as a curator, lecturer, and board member of several arts organizations, such as the prestigious “Fotohof“ in Salzburg.
