Paris Photo 2013

FEROZ Galerie is pleased to announce our exhibition of projects from our exclusively represented artists: August Sander, Sean Hemmerle, Jory Hull, Michael Somoroff, and Clark & Joan Worswick.
August Sander’s influential project, Menschen des 20. Jahrhundert, explores the varied expressions of the human spirit within the shifting social structures of Germany. We have prepared a unique agenda to celebrate this project as well as Sander’s 137th birthday, including a special selection of vintage photographs from the Estate.
Sean Hemmerle creates distinctive pictures exposing the residual layers of life and living. The project we are showing: Solitary Structures is a selection of photographs of everyday architecture found in places of conflict and struggle, ranging from the Middle East to the Middle of America—his work reveals the hidden signs of vitality and beauty found amidst the tensions. Hemmerle is also the recipient of a prestigious grant for architectural photography from the Graham Foundation in Chicago for his project Brutal Legacy, we will be exhibiting works from this series as well.
My Mind is Racing, is the seductive study of vintage race cars by Jory Hull. His photographic project portrays the graphic pleasures of speed and color as seen on the race track, a testament to the beauty and durability of these vehicles. Kehrer Velag in Heidelberg, is publishing a new book to be released in October to celebrating this series and will host an artist book signing during Paris Photo.
We also present a selection of work by Michael Somoroff, including photographs from his acclaimed touring exhibition, Absence of Subject. Somoroff has created mysterious new photographs from some of the well-known portraits by August Sander by removing what is considered the most important element,
the sitter. The photographs retain subtle suggestions of their missing subjects in the form of tea services, open books, and pulled out chairs patiently waiting. Somoroff’s pictures question what we as the viewer actually respond to when looking an image.
We are also pleased to announce our exclusive representation of the artists Clark and Joan Worswick. In 1968, The Worswicks spent six months photographing in some of the most remote areas of Ethiopia. Working together with filmmaker Robert Gardner for Harvard University, they were the first to document the centuries-old traditions of the isolated nomadic societies. The Worswicks created a unique and intimate view into the complex archaic world of the Hamar Tribe residing along the southern border near Kenya. This is the premiere exhibition of this series of photographs.
