Grete Stern

Grete Stern, a renowned designer and photographer, Stern became internationally known through her collaboration with Ellen Auerbach (then Ellen Rosenberg) in the 1930s. Together they ran the studio ringl + pit. Their work is considered groundbreaking in portrait and advertising photography and influenced numerous European and American artists.
In 1930 she worked at the Bauhaus Dessau and 1932-1933 at the Bauhaus Berlin. In 1933 - after the National Socialists came to power - she emigrated to London. In 1936 she emigrated to Argentina with her husband, Horacio Coppola, and she had Argentine citizenship since 1958. She worked as a photographer in Argentina until 1982/1983. Grete Stern died in Buenos Aires on December 24, 1999.
